117 die of Covid-19, 5717 infected in 24hrs

Bangladesh has reported 117 more deaths from Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 25,399. On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 14,67,715 as 5,717 more tested positive for the virus during the same time. It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.
Dhaka division alone saw 40 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while Chattogram division reported 29 deaths during the same time. Among the dead, 53 were male and 64 were female. DGHS said 15.54 percent of the 37,317 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive. The recovery count rose to 13,72, 856 after another 8,982 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 93.54 percent recovered, while 1.73 percent died. Earlier, the highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10). On August 5, the same number of people died of the virus. The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020, and the first deaths from the virus on March 18.
