Due to the increase in the price of diesel, the fare of the boat has been rescheduled by adjusting the fare by 30 percent. This fare will be effective from Tuesday (August 16). According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Shipping, for a distance of less than 100 kilometers, the fare per person per kilometer has been increased from Tk 2.30 to Tk 70 to Tk 3. For a distance of more than 100 kilometers, the fare per person per kilometer has been increased from Tk 2 to Tk 60 to Tk 2.60. The minimum fare per person has been increased from Tk 25 to Tk 8 to Tk 33.
On August 8, the Shipping Owners Association proposed a double fare hike to increase the launch fare due to the increase in fuel prices. The ministry formed a working committee as the decision was not finalized in a meeting with Shipping Secretary Mostafa Kamal at the Secretariat on that day. Launch fares were hiked by more than 35 per cent in November last year following a hike in oil prices.
It is to be noted that before November, the fare was Tk 1.70 per kilometer within 100 kilometers of the launch. It was then increased to Rs 2.30. At a distance of more than 100 kilometers, the fare per kilometer was Tk 1.40 before November. It was increased from Tk 2. And the minimum fare for the launch was increased from Tk 18 to Tk 25 in November.
